We arrived at Kohl's just after 6:00 p.m. (yes I love Kohl's) Wade needed to use the restroom so I started to walk with the kids when suddenly Zack took off, thinking it was funny to run around the clothes racks, as did we all when we were two. I picked up Kate and that's when the yelling began and it didn't stop until I caught him and found myself holding two kicking and screaming children. Maybe the yelling hadn't stopped because I'm still not sure how Wade found me on the floor holding them down in the middle of the store.
I never thought in a million years I would actually drag one or any of my children by their arms to the car. It wasn't pretty.
I had a similar experience but it was at a park. I watched a kid (maybe 6 or 7) take a bottle of water and spill most of it. Then the mother went off on him. I was NEVER going to be that mother.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't take long (a couple of years) for the same frustrations to come spewing out of my mouth. I've never called my kids dumb or stupid. BUT I've seriously wondered about that in specific moments and I know that they can feel me belittle them with my tone of voice.
It's definitely something to watch for and control. I'm pretty sure parents don't master it for years and then perfect it once the grandkids come.
